Contactless Technology

Can you call an elevator with a phone or contactless system?

Contactless calling is possible when the elevator controller, communication layer and access rules are designed to work together securely.

The call begins outside the conventional button

A mobile app may send a call through the building network, while NFC or a digital credential can trigger an authorized destination at a reader. QR codes and access-control platforms offer other workflows.

Different contactless methods

Apps, Bluetooth, NFC, QR and digital cards have different connectivity and user-experience requirements. The best method depends on whether the goal is convenience, access control or both.

Security and privacy are part of the design

Authentication, user permissions, encrypted communication, logs and revocation need clear ownership. The system should reveal and retain only the data required for operation.

Retrofitting requires interface review

An existing elevator may need a compatible controller interface, gateway, network and access-control integration. Contactless calling must not bypass normal safety circuits or emergency operation.

Frequently asked questions

Can every elevator be called by phone?

No. The controller and communication interface must support it directly or through an approved compatible integration.

Is internet access always required?

No. Some systems use a local building network, Bluetooth or NFC. Remote cloud-based functions generally need network access.

Can contactless calling be retrofitted?

Sometimes, after controller, interface, network, access-control and cybersecurity compatibility are assessed.
