Inspection and Maintenance

What is the difference between elevator maintenance and periodic inspection?

The two processes answer different questions. Maintenance follows the system continuously, while inspection provides an independent assessment at a defined time.

Maintenance and inspection are not interchangeable

Maintenance is carried out by the authorized technical service to monitor operation, adjustment and wear. Periodic inspection is performed independently against applicable control criteria and produces an inspection report and status label.

Different purpose and responsibility

Maintenance aims to preserve reliable operation and identify changes over time. Inspection evaluates whether the elevator meets the applicable safe-use and operating criteria at the inspection date.

Different records and outcomes

Maintenance produces service records, completed work and technical recommendations. Inspection produces an independent report, identified nonconformities and the corresponding information label.

How they work together

Share inspection findings with the service team, plan corrective work, keep evidence of completion and arrange a follow-up inspection where required. A favorable inspection never ends the need for maintenance.

Frequently asked questions

Does periodic inspection replace regular maintenance?

No. Inspection evaluates conformity at a point in time; maintenance continuously follows the operating and technical condition.

Who corrects findings in an inspection report?

The building responsible party reviews the report and plans the necessary work with an authorized maintenance or service team.

Does a green label mean maintenance is no longer needed?

No. The label reports the inspection result. Regular maintenance and record keeping must continue.
