Technical Maintenance

What is checked during elevator maintenance?

Elevator maintenance is not a glance at one component. It is a structured review of connected systems according to the equipment and maintenance plan.

Maintenance maps the elevator from the landing doors to the pit

The scope depends on elevator type, drive system, traffic and technical design. Work follows the installer's maintenance manual and the site-specific plan rather than one universal checklist.

Doors, car and passenger interfaces

Landing and car doors, locks, sills, sensors, door operator, buttons, indicators, lighting, alarm, emergency communication and landing accuracy are observed for correct operation.

Travel, drive and control equipment

Depending on the system, ropes or belts, sheaves, guide elements, machine, motor, brake, connections, fault records and relevant electrical checks are assessed for wear, alignment, noise and vibration.

Shaft, pit and safety chain

Limit devices, pit stop, buffers, tensioning equipment, door-lock circuits, governor and rescue arrangements are checked at the methods and intervals defined by the plan. Findings and actions should be recorded.

Frequently asked questions

Is every maintenance visit identical?

No. Basic condition is monitored each visit, while detailed tests and measurements follow the intervals in the maintenance manual and plan.

Is maintenance the same as repairing a fault?

No. Maintenance regularly monitors and preserves the system; fault repair diagnoses and corrects a specific problem.

Does maintenance replace periodic inspection?

No. Maintenance is performed by the authorized service, while periodic inspection is an independent conformity assessment. They complement one another.
